Steve Thompson began his career as a medic in the United States Air Force, then spent four years as an emergency department nurse. That combination of military discipline and clinical experience pointed him toward a career focused on one thing: keeping people from getting hurt at work.

For four decades since, Steve has worked across every dimension of workplace safety and risk — as a corporate risk manager, insurance professional, safety consultant, company founder, and for twenty years as an adjunct professor.

He co-founded Aspen Risk Management Group and ERGOhealthy with Cathi Marx, and served as a partner at Polestar Performance Programs. His first book, co-authored with Dan Hopwood, was previously ranked #2 of the 75 Best Workplace Safety Books of All Time by Book Authority. He was the 2023 ASSP Safety Professional of the Year for five west coast states, served on the Board and Grants Committee for the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation, and has carried the message of safety to over 1.5 million people nationwide.

Today he combines four decades of field experience with modern AI tools to deliver safety consulting that is faster, sharper, and more anticipatory than traditional approaches — advising clients on safety program development, OSHA compliance, loss control, ergonomics, and workers' compensation.
